Me too.

These links were truly hot and are now cold. I didn't want to publish the texts because of copywrite considerations.

The first two dealt with the SEC's public relations appearance before Congress. The essence of the posts can be found at the SEC website that Ron posted, sec.gov

The last one was an article that appeared on the front page of The State, the Columbia South Carolina newspaper. The article was about the Sierra Club's complaints about DHEC and can be accessed if you have a subscription to the online edition or pay a fee of perhaps a dollar. It was saying that DHEC doesn't do an adequate job of protecting the environment against the polluters. The national office has given the SC Sierra Club a $35,000 grant to do an investigation of DHEC. We, on the other hand, have seen how DHEC works from the "polluter's" standpoint.

The question in my mind is, how will DHEC's political problems affect GRNO? I'm betting that DHEC won't want to spend any more of its resources battling GRNO because of its already tenuous position. I feel that all GRNO has to do is present its case to the governor asking him whether this is the image he wants to present to outside business. If this is the way small business startups are treated by the SC government, why should anybody else start a business there, it's too corrupt and incomtetent.

In my local newspaper there had been a series of articles about a large construction company in Florida that does road construction work. Among many other things the company did was dump its road construction waste into a huge sinkhole that connected directly to the Floridan aquifer, the main source of underground water for the state. The company was ordered to clean it up but the last I saw of it, the work still wasn't started. The article said that was all felonious and the state was prohibited by law from doing business with a felon. And yet the company requested and received from the state a permit to move an asphalt plant to within the the limits of the city of Gainesville. The company has major road construction projects going on all over this area and sometimes I see convoys of heavily laden dump trucks with the company's name on the doors.

My point is, there are polluters and then there are polluters. How a business gets along in this country has everything to do with what we see every day in the news. We see a lot of hot air devoted to "campaign finance reform", but no real progress as an end result.
