Anyway the more advanced members of the population don't want to go back to the 13th century. No, they don't. And we don't want to give up oil and other trade and neither do they. So a partition would be very costly. So the only thing that could theoretically be negotiated in response to their demands would likely be unacceptable to both sides. So much for negotiations. (That's my "systems" response. <g>)
