Bev,
Could not find the "food" thread any more. but I'll just talk here.
While in Reno, we had dinner at a Basque Inn. In northern Nevada, the "melting pot" contains a group of super people-the Basque. At these "inns" they have always provided rooms for these ranchers when they come in town. they also serve home style, ranch type food with a basque background at long tables.
Dinner is always a big affair at a basque inn,and you feel as though you are sitting down with good friends. The fact I had never met the couple next to us from Ontario(sp?),or next to them from Florida could
not change the family feeling.
Our host started us with a glass of fruity white wine & pitcher of ice water. Then came the huge bowl of soup-a vegatable with tomato & noodles-passed around the table. Next, was (more family style) garden salad & homemade french style bread with (cow)butter.
Then a great platter of lamb stew,I could have stopped right there.
But then came each individual's own main course-a choice of 4-6 every night. I like well prepared sweet breads,Lana's steak was just as good. One from Canada had a very nice looking stew of clams, oysters,&shrimp. One from florida had the seared lamb chops -knocked my eyes out-WOW.
No room for the ice cream. Anyone who will eat meat should go find out about Basque food! that alone will justify a trip to north Nevada.
