Dave what about the coming media event?

How can you say Apple is going to dip after these kinds of reports when they have a media event coming within a month(?) ?

I've been thinking about Apple's conception of a media hub.

I have a degree in design so I appreciate the idea of conceptual design. Most designers are sheep, mimics who dote on "fonts" and color sense. Good designers who take the time to understand concepts are much rarer.

There is this sort of cloud of understanding about how the next generations of devices are going to work.

In the conference rooms in Cupertino people get together and brainstorm about it. As they do this the cloud slowly dissipates and the future becomes progressively clearer. This is how great design works. When you understand how technology makes certain concepts available or obliviates others you are then equipped to design with intelligence.

Understanding the confluence of Micro Drives, flash memory and "the Hub" enabled Apple to design the iPod.

Apple, I think, sees this road more clearly than most companies, in large part due to knowledge gained from it's experience with the iPod. If Apple is as smart as I think they are the iPod is much more than a temporary profit center. It is a learning tool. It's more like a satellite reporting back with invaluable information that no other company can access.

The question is how do you exploit it?

One thing that has become clear to me is that Apple understands that in the future peripherals are not "stand alones."

I don't think many companies understand this concept. For example Cell Phone companies DO see phones as stand alones. Microsoft and other game makers see game players as stand alones.

This is another way of confirming the people who have disparaged wireless downloading on iPod like devices. Wireless makes iPod devices stand alones. I think you disparagers are right.

Wireless is another thing in itself. Where is wireless REALLY needed? Not on your iPod. People are impatient but few are THAT impatient. Wireless from an iPod to a computer is NOT needed and is unnecessarily complex and slow compared to USB2.

Anyway, assuming Apple has it right about the computer still being the center of the media hub they own the jewel. OSX.
