I just read this report in CNN. As many as 500,000 people forced to flee their homes.

This is a catastrophe of immense proportions, and almost completely unnecessary. Like 9/11 changed the western world, radicalizing many moderate people, this will be a 9/11 for the Arab world, who are watching countless numbers of innocent civilians suffering due to aggression and the western world doing nothing, or even condoning it.
I haven't had many geopolitical posts since around the time of the invasion of Iraq. I felt strongly against the invasion and said it was insanity, even though it had a great deal of support by a lot of posters. 50,000 people have now died in Iraq (probably a very low estimate), since the end of the war, including 2500 Americans, and the world is no safer, in fact it has only increased terrorism and insecurity. Radicals in Iran have benefited, and to the extent that Iraq was even a relatively weak enemy of Israel, Israel benefited. A few big companies like Dick Cheney's Halliburton and other companies that support propoganda think-tanks to make the American public paranoid about invisible threats that they themselves are making real in the form of terrorist backlash have benefited. The whole rest of the world have suffered. How much peace and goodwill could have been bought with a small portion of the amount of money spent on weapons in either the case of the US or Israel?
I don't think we will have to wait three years for it to be obvious how disasterously stupid it is that Israel is being appeased when it trashes world peace the way it is doing. |
