DOW JONES NEWS SERVICE
INVESTORS SEARCH FOR
FRESH IDEAS AT
MONTGOMERY
CONFERENCE

By Mark Boslet

SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Investors became more selective buyers Tuesday, searching the roster of companies at the Montgomery Securities conference for fresh ideas.

And perhaps the greatest discovery of the day was Remedy Corp. (RMDY), which during a morning presentation described order growth as strong,
according to fund managers at the address. Remedy stock was a solid gainer for the day, climbing 3, or 8.25% to close at 39 3/8.

The era of "active management" is back, with many money managers beating major indexes with their fund's performance, said one conference attendee. "So," she added, "they are looking around for opportunities."

One such opportunity found was Cymer Inc. (CYMI), which continued to refute concerns that orders for its laser products were being postponed by customers Nikon Corp. and Canon Inc. (CANNY). Cymer's
shares were up strongly on the day, ahead 2 3/8, or
7.84% to close at 32 11/16. . . .
