| Lorne, the biggest benefactor of radical Islam is the people who create radicalism through extreme and unjust actions, such as we see the Israelis doing in Lebanon now. They might as well be considered the supporters of it, not me. In a free country with opportunity, secularism tends to thrive, but when there is suffering, lack of opportunity, and conflict it just leads people to religious extremism, which is where the world is headed in Iraq and has been headed in the occupied territories. Poverty, unemployment, and a military presence constantly humiliating them does all this. If the US wants to improve the situation with Syria and Iran, it should sign trade agreements with them, and with some wealth and opportunity the people will be happy to live a more US-styled way of life. They will evolve out of their political systems themselves and throw off radical voices. It seems other people just want to see these people suffer like the Iraqis have done, thus these crazy calls from neo-cons to attack them, which will only play into the hands of radical Islam. |
