"You know with the brave new world we are living in with satellites and RFID chips and cameras on every corner - storage and transportation are not nearly as anonymous as the old days eh?"

Sure but turning thousands of dollars into nothing is much easier when the money is in the bank or a brokerage account. (And as I said I do have a brokerage account (two actually.. ) and two bank accounts and two credit cards. Gold is insurance.

"High value collectible stamps are portable eh?"

Yes highly portable and easily hidden, however relatively easily damaged, and highly illiquid compared to gold.

"I know a few folks living in the bahamas from the UK and the USA who thought they had beat the long arm of the tax man - they were wrong."

What happened..? PS I pay my taxes.

"cheney says you can run - but you can't hide - that they SCRUTINIZE everything today."

And you believe him..?

"No guns - how are you different from the aztec then?"

I don't speak N'ahuatl and I don't put my gold on display or offer it to Spaniards. Nor do I breed animosity among tribes that pay tribute to me. By the way I didn't say I didn't have any guns. I just said I don't have an arsenal. And it's not government guns that get me worried.

"I heard jim jones went to guyana too when they came for him."

Ok, remind me not to start a cult, commit rape and murder, and molest children in the name of Jesus if I ever seem inclined to do so.

"Where are you fleeing too?" Nowhere if the country stays the same. If things radically change..? Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, Europe, etc.

"Property rights - the powers that be enabling them - protecting your assets rather than seizing them - if things get bad like you say may happen - I don't see gold stopping your former protectors turning into your worst nightmare."

Change will be probably be fairly slow in the US. We are quite far away from disaster. A whole bunch of entities have a big stake in keeping the ship afloat. But if it founders, it founders. I'll cross that road if we ever get there.
