Shanghai condos at more than one million each face a unique problem -- they are too expensive. Using million dollar condos as your benchmark troubles me. The people who invest in high end, hi spec condos can get slammed by market realities without crashing the broader supply-demand in the real economy.

As for tar sands -- I think you got it backwards. The fact that new sources of supply are not going to be cheap is part of what is going to drive prices higher.
