It's all about hurt "pride".... and mostly about religion -- can't give up even a small sliver of Dar-al-Islam to be ruled by infidels. Those 2 items, imo, in the end cover at least about 80-90% of the problem.

Well, that's certainly the propaganda that pervades Arab/Muslim thinking in the region..

I still think it's a convenient ruse used early on by Arab governments to focus domestic attention upon declaring Israel to be illegitimate so that their people paid less attention to their own illegitimacy. And now it's taken on a life of its own and they can't put the djinni back in the bottle (and some of them don't want to) and make peace with Israel.
