Iran at the time of the Shah had trade relations with the US, and now it does not. It has a lot of capacity for improvement of personal wealth, and secularism might thrive as a result, with religious hard-liners losing out. Note that the Shah was a dictator and the current government of Iran was elected. Note also that it was not the Iranian army who stormed the US embassy, it was students, and none of the hostages were harmed. Whether taking hostages was legitimate or not, I'm not saying it was, it was in the context of a lot of grievances. You call Mustlims blood-thirsty but these ones were not chopping off anyone's heads.
