Well, I've been paying borrow charges so I'm glad someone other than the broker is making something from it. Of course, institutions have been earning money from stock loans for a long long time, so this seems an extension to the retail level.

In general, I see it as potentially a part of a centralized market for stock loans/borrows, whereby shorters would pay longs for their borrows, could perhaps get a defined term on them, and the brokers can lose out!!

As you've pointed out, technology today could certainly make it work... just have to get the vested/self regulating interests out of the way.

Several little guys have been trying to create that system, but I don't know with what success.
