One of my favorite Flippity Flop Fibs by Brinker concerned his going to cash in 88, the only time in his whole life Brinker went 100% to cash and claimed at the time to be bearish.

He wandered around with different allocations until he became fully invested on the eve of the first gulf war in 91. There was no bear and indeed the market moved up something like 30% during that time.

Brinker claimed he "changed" his model to prevent that from happening. I listened one day and he said that he had backtested the model and it had proved that it would have worked perfectly through that and other such periods.

A year or so later another caller brought up the change in the model and mentioned the back testing. Brinker had forgot his speel from the year before and interupted the caller saying.

"I never backtested the new model. There would be no reason to do so. You already know the results so it would be silly to backtest, knowing the results."

So there you have it Dija, You can take your choice. Brinker was either lying when he said he "backtested" his model or he was lying when he said it was "silly to backtest" his model. He simply couldn't remember the fibs. That is a great reason to simply tell the truth. I have many more if you like.
