The situation in Palestine should have been left up to custom and tradition

Custom and tradition had just collapsed, along with the dying remnants of the Ottoman empire. Since you are not arguing that the Turks should have retained control of Arabia, we are only talking about WHICH new owner should have been assigned WHICH new piece.

ALL the countries in the Middle East were created after WWI. ALL OF THEM! Some of them had LOCAL historical borders, and some did not. Egypt and Lebanon did; Palestine and Transjordan and Iraq did not.

To point at maps in a US bible is neither here nor there. The question is not what European Christians called the region, we know THEY called it Palestine, but what the local Levantine population called it.
