Its easy for us to bash bush over iraq. Man did they screw up and even folks who supported the war now admit to that. I dont think any of us on this thread are smart enough to know what syria or irans real intentions were/are. I am not sure iran even gave the order to hizbolla which is now conventional wisdom. All i know is israel had a policy of deterrence vis a vis lebanon/hizbolla. Maybe they didnt make it clear enough but it is now. Folks who opposed the war in iraq and prattled on about containment and deterrence for the most part dont understand what deterrence means. During the cuban missilbe crisis the world as we knew it was at stake because the soviets broke the deterrent rules in cuba.
The left gotta figure out what war they wont run away from. Right now they wars they support are in those that are 100% successful in hindsight like Kosovo. If Kosovo was messy they would have been yelling about bombing belgrade which we did much in the same way israel has hit beirut. The left is lost and i think the voters may very well be turning back to republicans if bush can some way neutralize iraq as a political issue before november. He has three months to do that.
