You wrote:"Not so. The holy Scriptures and holy Fathers of the Church make it explicitly clear that Christ willingly offered Himself as a sacrifice to the Father." I cannot believe that an all powerful, compassionate God would so willingly accept His only son as a sacrifice, especially as a sacrifice to the undeserving. There was no Internet at that time, no electricity, no TV, no radio, almost non-existent communications. Around the world, almost no one knew about the murder of Christ. I don't question the great character, compassion and wisdom of Christ. I've often wished that another great Jewish leader, like Christ, would lead much of this world out of chaos and misery it is in now. I do question God's decision to allow His only son to commit suicide. I do not think that it is a good example to other parents. God is saying that, if you feel that the cause is justified, as certainly God thought that His cause was justified, go ahead and encourage your son, or daughter, to commit suicide. Imagine the good that Christ could have done for this world if he had lived! |
