It makes me sad to see the physical destruction pariticularly in Beirut. By the second day of the war, there was listed on the lebanon side about 300 casualties. Since then the Lebanese have suffered about 80 more. Each civilian casualty is a tragedy unto itself but it strikes me that with all the physical damage israel has caused, the casualties are very low for a war that has lasted three weeks. The only time the israelis might have ignored some of the civilian damage was on the first day when they may have felt they could catch the terrorists by surprise. 380 dead again is an individual tragedy for the families of those who are innocent. So are the 40 or dead israeiis but bottom line this is about as carefully as a war can be fought.
