The reason given for Israel putting so much pressure on the Lebanese government is to convince them that it is in their best interests to do what they were supposed to do years ago. That is to do away with hizbollah as they had agreed to do. When Israel told them that right after the first bombs hit Beirut they said their army was not strong enough to do it. Hizbollah is said to have between 1,000 and 10,000 men. The Lebanese army is 60,000 men. Now Lebanon is saying they might join the fray on the side of Hizbollah if certain things happen. They will find Israel is a lot tougher opponent than Hizbollah if they do.
