JAVA is slow no doubt but the industry giants are working together to improve the performance. Keep in mind that Java is still an infant child. Whether it will "grow" up is another question but keep in mind that Universities are now teaching JAVA for the first time ever. Stanford is one and U of To another. I am sure professors from the Comp. Science department are tripping over each other to understand and contribute how to improve this OS.

The fact that JAVA code requires an interpreter for 20% of the code is one reason why it is slow. Get rid of the interpreter and you get rid of portability but improve performance. It's a catch 22 situation.
