And I am surprised it took this long for traditional conservatives (as opposed to neocons on foreign affairs) to call him to task on some of these issues.

O.K...as a war President he gets some room to wiggle on privacy issues....but the refusal to work with a docile congress led by his own party on these issues instead of doing it "by himself" baffles me. Now he is on the defensive on those issues partly because he didn't work the system.

On fiscal matters...no excuse, no room given. How voters who call themselves conservatives cannot be ripping both the Administration and the Republican Congress a new one is beyond me!!! And since they have outspent the last dem-controlled congress on a percentage of increase basis, the arguments that the "demohacks would just be worse" doesn't ring true.

Now the old-line conservatives have had enough. They can see the dangers in the mishandling of foreign affairs, the contradictions in our Iraq policy....and the endless, endless, expense. They are no happier with Congress, which could balance the President.

Interesting developments in the past two weeks. We'll have to see how it all plays out.
