I wonder whether Quantum was in HK to bid on HK$ devaluation and then only got hit due to the involvement of the HK gov., with the strong support of the Mainland China. Whoever bet in that one would lost money

That is true, BUT, I bet we will never ever see that kind of bubble and the resulted extremely high volatility again. It is the history and over. I think statistically, that period of time should be considered as outlier, should be excluded or at least should be normalized to certain degree. It will be misleading if any model use that as a normal/can happen again event.
