Hi all - back in the US and trying to dig out from under a big backlog of stuff. Maybe I'll be able to contribute to biotech again soon. My mother is doing as well as could be expected for a 91 year-old after two major surgeries. Interesting to see that south Africa now has a 3G wireless network for data transmission. US still stuck with 2.5G. But telecom costs are still generally much higher there - bottleneck with pipe to the rest of the world is partly to blame, the rest is partial govt. monopoly/regulation that I never did quite get straight. But place seems to be thriving. HIV is biggest blot on horizon (together with the possibility of a populist successor to Mbeki). But the disaster next door in Zimbabwe is known to everyone. A "Zimbabwean wallet" is now a backpack filled with Z$20,000 notes printed on one side on plain paper (Zim. govt. can't afford to buy proper currency notes.) Peter P.S. Nice to see some good news from MNTA at last.
