Why always the carrot for Israel and the stick for the others?
Because Israel hasn't come out and said they want to destroy Lebanon, or Syria, or Jordan, Or Egypt, Or Iran. Iran may be an oversight.
Hezbollah has come right out and said, Israel must be destroyed. What impetus is there for Israel to give up land or return killers, when Hezbollah's stated objective is the destruction of Israel. Hezbollah acquired 12000 missiles, they don't celebrate the 4th of July, and they have loaded them with Ball bearings as anti-personnel weapons, and they are firing them at civilian targets, why would Israel think that freeing a few prisoners or giving back a farm is going to sway Hezbollah? Where do you see any hope from the Israeli position? Where is there room to negotiate?
Israel was attempting to give back the Gaza Strip or part of it, and the missiles increased by hundreds a week. How do you negotiate with that? Israel says Okay I will give back a part of your land, so Hamas sends more bombs. Hamas wants to destroy Israel, Israel has no reason to negotiate, and Hamas has made no offers, except "We want to destroy Israel."
So until someone wakes up to the fact that Israel isn't going anywhere, Israel has to prove that attacking Israel is dangerous. Personally I prefer it when they simply kill the leaders. I think it would be fun if one of those new Hezbollah Missiles hit that big Mosque in Jerusalem... If I were the Israelis, I would be looking at that real hard. |
