| Why are they hypocrites because they don't like the word? Shouldn't people get to choose what they like? I mean if they are gay I can't see them stopping other people from using the term gay, since that is common parlance, but I don't understand why they are hypocrites if they don't like the word. I don't like the word honky, although I suspect somewhere a group of white people probably uses the term affectionately about each other, and they might even use it about me, if I happened to wander by. The fact that I might abhor that term, applied to myself, doesn't mean I'm a hypocrite about being white, it just means I don't like the term. Or use the "n" word if you prefer. Certain groups of black Americans use that word, but a black American who doesn't like it isn't a hypocrite because they don't want it applied to them. That doesn't mean they get to shut up the other people who use it, it just means we don't have to be pleased with the way other people label their groups, and the groups they might think we belong to- and we aren't a hypocrite because we don't like a given label (imo). |
