Hi skinowksi; Re: "This idea may sound crazy to a modern Western person, but that's how the professional Jihadi's see it, and, in effect, that's what it is."
No. Just because a crazy person says a duck is a turtle doesn't mean a duck is a turtle. What I showed you was precisely that, "in effect", this is not a war. Hey, if the mideast ever gets a war, you'll recognize it for what it is.
At best, what you have now is a fairly major amount of criminal activity. That is very different from a war.
Let me put it to you this way. In WW2, 6 million Jews were killed. This was an almost insignificant fraction of the total number of people killed though it was an incredible disaster for the Jews. But even that small number amounted to 5500 people KILLED EVERY DAY FOR 3 YEARS. Right now the death rate due to terrorism in Israel that you're seeing is some tiny tiny fraction of the rate at which, for example, Jews marry gentiles in the US.
It's not a "war" in the sense of populations exterminating each other to decide who controls border territory. It's more like a sporting event where there are far more cheering and whining viewers than players. Everybody cares about what is going on, but it doesn't amount to much. And as in a sporting event, nothing much is ever decided, other than bragging rights that only last until the next match. Beating Hezbollah in 2006 doesn't mean that Israel won't be playing them again next season. I should mention that after we beat the Japanese and Germans, they didn't come back for more, and after we got kicked out of Vietnam, we weren't signing up to do it again.
