Penn National profit rises, raises year view

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Casino operator Penn National Gaming Inc. (PENN : Penn National Gaming Inc. on Thursday said second-quarter net income rose to $42.7 million, or 49 cents a share, from $12.1 million, or 14 cents a share. Excluding items related to early debt extinguishment, stock compensation and settlement charges, it earned 53 cents a share. Net revenue rose to $537.8 million from $296.2 million. Analysts, on average, expected it to earn 49 cents a share on revenue of $555.2 million, according to Thomson First Call. For the third quarter, it forecast profit of 49 cents a share on revenue of $578.2 million. For the year it raised its forecast and now expects to earn $1.84 a share on revenue of $2.22 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expect it to earn $2.01 for the year on revenue of $2.27 billion, on average.
