It doesn't matter how much you lay out the facts. Supporters of conspiracy theories will find ways to twist them, or if they can't do that they will ignore them.


Now, to be fair, some of this is due to increased useage

It doesn't take a lot of increased usage to greatly increase the price in a commodity like oil. Oil supplies only go online slowly. Demand doesn't respond quickly to higher prices (people won't sell their $30k or junk their $30mil factory overnight because costs have gone up a fraction of that amount). So a small increase in demand without a corresponding equal or greater increase in supply and price jump quickly.

Not true, it does cost more. That increase is small compared to the increase in oil or gasoline prices, but it is real. More importantly its mostly irrelevant. A free market sets prices based on supply and demand not the cost of production. Also a lot of the supplies of oil have to be imported from countries with nationalized oil production. So the Saudis, Kuwaitis, Iranians, Mexicans, Venezuelans, Russians, etc. make more money. That doesn't have a lot to do with Bush, Enron, and Exxon Mobil having some grand conspiracy.

You keep throwing around "gouging" but you won't even define what you mean by it.
