Now why those issues are currently, for many, the determinative issues in national elections when we've got young men and women being blown to bits and killing Iraqis in a war that isn't, and won't be, "won," is beyond my comprehension. Ed

Because we don't have a draft. It's a volunteer force, and one that despite the conflict (or maybe because of it) is re-upping at higher rates than in peacetime.
