Cut and pasted from the GOP website.....LOLOL. I suggest you consider the demographics of the time. The South was heavily Democratic and racist. So don't attribute anything to democrats from the South that is liberal. And it's BS to say that the court of public opinion had already established civil rights by 1955 or so.... Racial discrimination is still common and is mostly found among Conservatives. Why do you think the south is solid conservative now? The shift began in 1964...and the Civil Rights Act made it through congress after the riots caused by MLK's assassination. I also notice that your copied link only mentioned senators who are democrats. If I recall Strom Thurmond set the filibuster record then...you remember Strom was a democrat at the time.s
