Dow - I own a small position too -ouch! i think that rising energy prices are the problem not necessarily high ones. Note that demand was Ok despite high prices (4% volume growth) but margin were compressed because prices rose slower than input costs.

Also looking at DOW cash flow statement it looks like Capex has been consistently equal or lower than depreciation - which means that free cash flow is very strong. the problem is that quite a bit of the FCF goes into boosting the underfunded pension plan. Dividend is OK and should provide a floor to the stock. I think I'll add to my small position. Energy prices may stay high but they can't rise forever.
