StockInterview.com: Billionaire Ikea Furniture Founder Invested in Swedish Uranium Mining Effort
SARASOTA, Fla., Jul 17, 2006 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Founder of Ikea furniture and penurious billionaire Ingvar Kamprad, touted by the Swedish media as having surpassed Bill Gates as the world's wealthiest individual, recently invested in Swedish uranium mining, through a private placement in Canadian-traded Mawson Resources (TSX: MAW; Frankfurt: MRY), according to a StockInterview.com interview conducted with the company's Chief Executive Michael Hudson.
Hudson explained to StockInterview.com that Sweden is undergoing a nuclear energy revival and has been misaligned by the world's press that the country is undergoing a phase out of their nuclear power plants. Swedish polls conducted since 1996 demonstrate an overwhelming majority of Swedes favor the continuation of the country's nuclear energy policies. Sweden derives nearly one-half of the nation's electricity generation from its ten operating nuclear reactors. The country's parliamentary elections, scheduled for September 17th, could lead to a revival in Sweden's nuclear energy aspirations if the Alliance, comprised of Liberals, Moderates, Christian Democrats and Centre Party, oust the Social Democrat-led Riksdag, the country's parliament.
Mawson Resources is one of several uranium exploration and development companies hoping to bring back uranium mining to Sweden. Late last year, the world's second largest uranium concern Cogema, a division of French-based Areva, applied for uranium exploration permits in Sweden. Until recently, Sweden has not explored for uranium since 1985. "It's the only part of the nuclear cycle the Swedes are missing out on," Hudson told StockInterview.com |
