That is good PR advice for anyone who really wants to influence the public. Similarly, attacking popular institutions like churches, scouts etc. would be a bad PR idea. Parades with freaky looking marchers would be another bad PR idea. (Recall the "Clean for Gene" antiwar people or the way the early civil rights sit-ins at lunch counters,etc would have their people dressed in suits?)

But if the primary goal is to label oneself noble and others bad, then calling the opposition "bigots" s/b the first order of business.
