Ted is not stupid. He is blindly partisan. He has repeatedly stated that the NYTimes is a conservative paper, but he is a moderate.

I think the way to describe him is to say he is very intelligent and has limited common sense. He used to be a good guy (though partisan) until he got his masters. It was as if a switch flipped on that day and he lost any semblance of understanding or compassion for his fellow human being.
