My POV is one I have stated before: ideology is not a left-right line, it is a circle where the more authoritarian streaks on both "sides" cluster, imagining they are separated by a wide gulf when in fact they are just mirror images of one another, standing side by side. Zealots always convince themselves they need more power, less accountability and more control over their opponents. Hitler, Stalin, Latin American dictators, African dictators, the story always ends the same. It saddens me to see the US even contemplating going down that road because we are scared of something that can never occupy our territory, take over our government or threaten our existence at all.
