If Dale was an "official" US diplomat* at age 24, one would think that's most likely a record. I'd think that would be considered unusually young even in the late 18th or 19th century. Think about it. What country would take the word of a 24 yr old "diplomat" seriously?

In any event, I did a little searching on the net. Nothing I found listed Dale as a "diplomat". However, there are some references to a Dale Baker from the State Dept in some positions that could be construed to be part of the diplomatic process in some way.

In 1996, a State Dept Guide for Business Representatives listed a Dale Baker as a "Public Affairs Officer" who was assigned to the tiny island nation of MAURITIUS - population just over a million. It is located about 560 miles east of Madagascar (which is a large island off the east coast of southern Africa). Now a PAO could be considered a diplomat to some degree, though IMO, it's a bit of a stretch. It's not exactly what most folks think of when they think of an official US diplomat.

One would think that Dale's career had advanced somewhat in the 10 years prior to the PAO spot in Mauritius. I found no earlier references than this one.

A military document from March 1999, notes a media report where a Dale Baker is called a U.S. "embassy spokesman" in Sarajevo. It's worth noting that this is from, 'The Balkans Chronology, Volume II, Issue 11'. It's one of a long series of comprehensive issues covering all media reports for the countries and regions of the former Yugoslavia and the Balkan Peninsula. This is the only reference to a Dale Baker in any capacity from these chronologies.

In mid 2000, a Dale Baker is quoted in IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board, an international nonprofit organization established by leading US universities). He is listed there as a "Press Attaché" for the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Sarajevo.

Those were the only three references to a Dale Baker that would indicate he served in any type if "diplomatic" capacity from my searches. IMO, that's pretty impressive. Heck, I was the government's expert witness in several successful fraud trials (one was over $100 million). I don't think I ever had my name in any media reports or on the internet.

In any event, one could argue that Dale's claim of being a diplomat from 1987 - 2000 may not be full disclosure though. Make of this what you will.

* diplomat - One, such as an ambassador, who has been appointed to represent a government in its relations with other governments.
