Excluding last year (an insane year), activity in the Atlantic basin for 2006 is actually about normal to date for an ACTIVE year!

That may surprise a few people, since it seems quiet. As an example, in 2004 the first named storm was Alex - named on July 31st. We have already had two named storms (Alberto and Beryl) in the Atlantic basin.

Usually the real activity starts in August.
