In this case it was corn fields and a Farm & Fleet. WalMart brought in the apartments and other businesses.

Our east side has been growing beyond my belief, all McMansions. Zoned out all the businesses there. People have to drive 5 miles to get gas. Once the home building slowed the next jump were businesses.

Odd thing with all the new building, retention basins had to be installed for all the rainwater. Of course if you buy a new 8,000 sq ft home that basin has to look like a pond. Years ago we used to see geese fly over in the spring and fall. Now with all the ponds we have a large population of geese living here all year.
