You need to remember that Israel fought these guys since 1982 (unlike US invasion of Iraq, which I said at the time would be another Lebanon on a bigger scale). OTOH Israel seems surprised by some of their capabilities. In 1983 I worked at Qibbuz Bar'am two settlements west of the much mentioned Avivim right on the border... was in the area quite a lot after (including a geography field course in Upper Galilee) but not in recent years. Some of the discussion in the piece is implausible (Nahal moving west from panhandle to Qana !?) but who knows, we will see...
