the usual script is a fight to a draw then a political settlement that draws in the radical movement and makes them a player in democratic governance

I recall reading a story a while back that in Palestine, they find these young radicals wives. Once they get married and start having kids they aren't so eager to fight. I suppose jobs should be part of the "treatment", as well.

I stay away from the whole Arab-Israeli thing since I know it never changes.

I usually do, too, but it keeps spilling into everything else that's going on in the Middle East because the US is Israel's protector, always has been since 1948, and that's not going to change. So anger at Israel and anger at the USA are irretrievably intertwined.
