Since H. is apparently not going to use classic guerrilla tactics and seems content to dig itself in and fight, Israel has been given a wonderful opportunity to inflict very severe damage to it. But to do so, Israel must use its ground forces. It seems not to have any desire to do so despite having called up quite a few reservists.

I don't understand Israeli reluctance. It has only allowed H. to further prepare its defenses and thereby increase the eventual costs in both Israeli men and money once the inevitable ground operation takes place. I can only conclude that Olmert is simply not seasoned enough to deal with a problemof this magnitude.

The Israeli response seems very well calculated, one that was not thought out in the spur of the moment, and that is what baffles me. How can a well-thought out response not include what is obviously necessary to inflict substantial damage to H.?
