The US$ has by most accounts somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 trillion in unfunded liabilities that start coming due this decade.By any measure, there is simply no way to pay these liabilities in their current form. Seeing that no politician would dare cut Social Security and Medicare, that leaves default or inflate. Growth will not even come close to covering the shortfall.

$gold knows this as do those of us that can see past the next FED meeting. $gold hasn't sounded any alarm, it has just awakened from a long slumber. Get back to me in a little less than 2 years when it is over $1000 an ounce. At that time I could possibly project where we might end up.

Oh and exactly what War were we fighting in the late 70"s that caused the metals to go vertical? The Cold War?
