Note: The affected batteries do not pose a safety risk. You may continue to use your current battery until a replacement arrives.

Q: Apple, since this battery doesn't pose a safety risk, why can't I just keep using it as a spare?

It is important that you return the affected battery to Apple so that the battery can be properly recycled.

I want to protect the environment. I don't want this still useful (and safe) product to end up in a landfill, or for resources to be wasted. Although some components are recycled, others are just trashed. Why accelerate that?

Thank you for your cooperation with this exchange program.

Would you consider my waiting a year or two to return the product for recycling uncooperative? What if I saved you the return postage and dropped it off at my local recycling center at my convenience (say in a few days or a few years)?

Chances are these are a really bad batch and they'll fail fairly quickly no matter what. Whatever lost work may not be worth it if it fails suddenly and frequently.
