The Suez crisis of 1956-57 basically saw Eisenhower putting pressure on Israel and Britain to withdraw from Egypt. en.wikipedia.org It wasn't until the 1960s that the US become more heavily involved in Israel (Especially after 1967..) Previously Britain and France were Israel big military suppliers.
