After 9-11, Arafat also pledged support for the US. Almost the entire Arab world was pledging support and Iran even helped us to a degree in Afghanistan. They were certainly not being our enemies then. But then Bush declared war on them basically with his Axis Of Evil speech. Why? Especially since we have almost no military options against Iran, and Iran never attacked us.
