Terrorism has two branches---al quaeda and islam led shiaacracy in iran and militias in iraq and lebanon. The two terror branches hate each other but they unite periodically for mutual benefit as in iraq at time and in now in support of lebanon/hizbolla. Back in WW2 we allied with evil stalin to take out an even greater evil. During he Cold War we cozied up to evil post mao communists to give us leverage against the evil empire of Breznev. It has always seemed to me that we may have such a choice to make in the Middle East. For me al quaeda is far and away the worse of the two and better relations with iran is something that we should seek--Trust but Verify comes to mind. Since hizbolla is an extension of the mullocracy, we may be able to live with them if as part of a deal with iran we could settle the palestinian issue once and for all. That would leave radical islam split and al quaeda out in the cold along with sunni terrorists in iraq and palestine. Hopefully we will one day be so lucky but if we are to be it involves a less ideological FP on our side as well along with iron clad guarantees for israel if iran/hizbolla ever went back on its word. Also it would not be such a bad idea, if we could do a libya on syria. That would be an additional prompt for iran to behave and a real road block in the underground supply highway between iran and hizbolla.
