Criticizing a grandiose policy almost always draws this retort. It's often a rhetorical device to take attention away from the excess zeal of the grandiose policy.

It that was my only response it might be safe to assume that this was the intent (or that I was ignorant of other possible responses). In the context of a post pointing out how various extremes are or may be mistakes it wouldn't seem to be safe or reasonable to assume that my post had that intention.

I probably should have said "doing nothing more" or "doing nothing new" or "doing nothing that requires serious effort" rather than "doing nothing". Its rare that we would do absolutely nothing in response to a situation that even vaguely resembles the current conflict in Al Qaeda.

So the final answer is a middle course that doesn't draw cheers from the cheap seats, but just might be a sustainable policy. Our current track is not.

What exactly do you consider to be our unsustainable current track?
