Your point? Iraq was our buddy in those days because they were at war with Iran. We supplied them with chemical and other weapons during that time.

As far as the rest, there is no sign they were trying to buy yellowcake. If they were, there are controls in place to prevent it. Sure, people can speculate, but to give it much credibility you have to come up with some plausible ways for them to circumvent the controls and barriers in place. Since mining is monitored and all yellowcake produced is accounted for on regular intervals, to have a significant amount to be diverted to an illegal destination is unlikely.
