We have been hit 1000 times by terrorists in Iraq and other places like Saudi Arabia, London, Madrid, Bali, etc. etc. World terrorism was up 400% last year over the year before it.
Bushies like to claim they've protected our Homeland, yet that's just luck. The 9-11 Comission gives then D and F grades on Homeland Security. Bush is even still pushing that crazy Dubai Ports deal. Increased vigilance is due to airline security, citizen awareness and added security at high rises and other important places.
Al Qaida plans very few attacks on US soil. They are very risky to pull off. Clinton foiled a big one in 1999 stopping the Al Qaida LAX bombing. But the rightwing calls CLinton "weak on terrorism". Why? What US attack did Bush ever stop? 9-11 happened on his watch after he was warned. And why did Bush disband all Clinton's counter-terror operations in 2001?
Also, why should Al Qaida bother smuggling a bomb into NYC when they can blow up US troops in Baghdad much more easily? Terrorists are not stupid. They avoid traps and always try to attack in unexpected ways.
Then consider the fact we have spent a trillion dollars on additional military and security costs since 9-11, plus some 22,000 US casualties. And what have we really gotten for it? Osama is still alive and well, Iraq is falling to Shia militants allied with Iran and the Middle East is in flames. We are not more secure now, we are less secure, and our military is exhausted. |
