The rationale for the Civil War changed midway through the conflict.
I am not a historian, but couldn't help but think of the Iraq war and the way the reasons have mutated or at least fallen and risen in emphasis over its course. Is this common of most wars? And is it significant that WWII, with perhaps a more clearly cut reason, is seen as a "good" war?
