I don't know... I prefer to sell SOME when the stocks are up and buy them back when they correct. I KNOW I never look smart because I always sell some before the final top and I usually buy back too early. ON rare occasions, I manage to get a few right at a top or bottom, but that is mostly luck.

I seem to recall many were looking for capitulation in 2002 and didn't see that it was a rather lengthy process so they missed adding shares in October 2002. Those of us who bought a few shares in Oct 2002 were able to sell some in Jan 2003 and buy them back in March 2003. It is pretty amazing when I look back on those days... but the little nibbles seem to add up to pretty decent returns.

Those who look to smack em out of the park on final capitulation days often get called out on strikes I think.
